Where are you today?
I am in Florida at my brother-in-laws house. We are visiting family here and honoring my in-laws wedding anniversary. I miss them both very much but spending time with the family here is helping.
Chris is making Camp Breakfast and laundry is spinning in the washer.
I am comfortable at my brother-in-laws house and can write, read, cook, and clean similar to the tone of when I am in my house. We chat by fires in the evenings, go to favorite restaurants that we can only go to here and we will take a walk on the beach before we leave. We are making a stop at The Lynx bookshop on the way out of Florida early next week which I am excited about.
The Bradbury Trio [reading a poem, an essay, and a story every day] fuels my writing. (I am teaching a course about the Trio starting Sunday!)
This trio structure works for me because I am inspired to write after I read.
I hope the reading you do today leads you to writing that could have not been created any other way.
Here are some of the texts that made an impact on me this today.
Poem: Questionable Products
I am not often drawn to writing odes, but I found this Open Write prompt intriguing. The article about the 40 Weird Things sold on Amazon is one to browse. It alone fired some fun ideas for poems/stories.
Story: The Wolf
This current issue of Ghost Parachute is an amazing collection of stories.
Essay: Creative Cohorts
I loved the ideas of creative groups gathering in this post. I am drawn to the magic of retreats with other creatives too. I keep kicking around many ideas about hosting retreats - virtual and in-person.
Have you read anything interesting this week that you need to share!? Please do so in the comments! I love recommendations and have found some of my favorite stories that way.
A little more about me: Tammy L. Evans is a writer, teacher, and coach living in a tiny house on a peninsula with her husband and adventure cat. Her location device is her loud laugh. She is currently working on a short story collection. Her poetry has been published in The Storyteller, FoxGlove Journal, Story Hall, Blue Insights, The Partnered Pen, and others. Her fiction has been published in Gone Lawn, Cabinets of Heed, Spelk, Five on the Fifth, Clover and White, Fiction Berlin Kitchen, and others.
I’m in a WeWork in nyc!
Tammy, thank you for sharing The Open Write prompt today. I hope many of your readers will stop in to read and write! As always, I am reading your blog and finding deep comfort in your place and people.
