Welcome to my #last100dayproject!
What will you do with the remaining 31 days of 2023?
Today’s prompt:
What image or memory comes to mind when you think of the word “dictionary”?
I have a friend I met on retreat with Pam Houston early in the year who has a relationship with a dictionary.
As we were preparing for workshop one morning, Kristen pulled out a raggedy paper dictionary. I discovered it was her grandmother’s and she carries it around. I love that she carries a dictionary, which was her grandmother’s. And yes, she uses it.
The actual dictionary:

What is your relationship to dictionaries?
I must admit, I use the dictionary app on my phone rather than using the guide words. I used to teach that skill. It used to be a power standard for the 3rd graders in Indiana.
I invite you to search your notebooks and drives for the prompt word and see what drafts you have that you can resurrect and revise.
What will you write today?
A list
A metaphor
A memory
One sentence
A conversation imagined between you and a stranger
Whatever you choose - have fun!
Happy writing!
I invite you to leave a comment!
You belong simply because you are here.

I don't carry it around, but I do have the dictionary that my dad had when I was a kid. It is one of my cherished objects and has a special place in my office.
Between my husband and I, we probably had over twenty dictionaries . We’ve had to downsize because of shelf space and the internet🤪so now we have three of our favorites around still:)
