Welcome to my #last100dayproject!
What are you focusing on for the remainder of 2023?
There are 34 days left of the year 2023.
I give you permission to begin today!
Today’s prompt:
What image or memory comes to mind when you think of the word “donut”? Or do you spell it, doughnut?
When I was little, my Oma made homemade doughnuts in her kitchen. I didn’t know until I was an adult that she fried canned biscuits in hot oil on the stove. It was magic to me that she could conjure donuts in her kitchen for me! She always coated the hot dough with powdered sugar to make them glazed.
I have had my share of doughnuts at Dunkin and for various work carry-ins. They aren’t my favorite or my go-to.
I have been to VooDoo Doughnuts in Portland (and bought the t-shirt! One of the few items I have not lost over the many many moves.) Their variety is extreme they are large pastries and loaded with stuff. Their flavor choices are….unusual.
- Capt’n Crunch donuts called Oh Captain, My Captain
-Dirt
-Old Dirty Bastard
-Grape Ape
-Voodoo Bubble (with a Dubble Bubble piece of gum in the center)
-One called the Voodoo Doll - The Voodoo Doll Donut is a raised yeast doughnut with raspberry jelly filling, chocolate frosting, and a pretzel stake. It also has a face and small arms.
-The Ring of Fire
Do you have a preferred donut? I would love to know your flavor in the comments! Mine is the Chocolate Frosted Long John (because I don’t like donuts filled with “stuff”)
I invite you to search your notebooks and drives for the prompt word and see what drafts you have that you can resurrect and revise.
What will you write today?
A list
A metaphor
A memory
One sentence
A conversation imagined between you and a stranger
Whatever you choose - have fun!
Happy writing!
I invite you to leave a comment!
You belong simply because you are here.

Oooh such a fun read ! You are the last person I imagined with a donut :) I am not a fan of donuts at all but my family likes them. When I was in the single digits ages, we went to a market where a truck was always parked. Selling fresh made donuts . I still remember the aroma !
