Welcome to my #last100dayproject!
What are you focusing on for the remainder of 2023?
There are 81 days left of the year 2023.
You can begin today! I give you permission!
One of the actions I think about a lot is revisiting past writing classes. To go back into my drives and redo these classes that I have spent resources on over the years.
I have been pleased with the practice of dipping into my saved writing searching for key words. I feel I am revising and generating for the same piece. It has been satisfying!
This week I was reminded of a class I took several years ago. I went back into the course work - one of those courses that promises lifelong access. I have put a reminder in my calendar to revisit the materials as well.
Today’s prompt:
Yesterday was about pancakes. Today is about Waffles.
At an education conference I attended in the summer of 2021 one of the icebreakers was to make a decision of preference of Pancakes vs. Waffles in a group of 5 and then to try to convince the other people in your group to change their minds through your power of persuasion.
My favorite waffles are Mickey Waffles at Walt Disney World. They taste different to me and my son than any other.
There is something special about waffles that make them seem like there is more work required to eat them.
I love the Hilton hotels because they have the waffle makers for the hot breakfast when you stay there. I do prefer when someone else makes it for me though.
My in-laws loved the Waffle House. They knew all the people who worked there as well. Going in there made me feel like I was a tag along to someone famous the way they treated my MIL. They loved her. We all love her! I did try the waffle the last time we were there in Florida but it was a flat waffle - not the Belgian kind. I would not order it again. They would always send my mom with a waffle to go. They wanted to take care of her.
Waffle House used to be my go-to breakfast place when I lived in Kokomo, Indiana at the beginning of my teaching career. They had the thick kind with the crispy outside and the fluffy inside. I prefer that type.
What image or memory comes to mind when you think of waffles?
I invite you to search your notebooks and drives for the prompt word and see what drafts you have that you can resurrect and revise.
What will you write today?
A list of places to eat waffles
What is a metaphor you can create with waffles as a component?
A memory of waffles
One sentence containing the word waffles
Maybe you start a conversation with a stranger about the word and that is the story you write. Whatever you choose - have fun!
Happy writing!
I invite you to leave a comment even if you are just reading and not doing a project! Just say hello so I know you are out there! You belong simply because you are here.
I would love to hear about your progress on your projects too!!

**NOTE**
I do not share drafts of work online because most publications considered this published. You are more than welcome to share your piece in the comments, an excerpt, a link to your blog/Substack, or an update.
I hope for the comments to be a community for us to share these wins.
