Welcome to the conversation! The above photo is from the brunch chain First Watch in Florida.
If we were having coffee I would tell you…I am in Chicago today for a writing conference with StoryStudio. Rebecca Makkai is the creative director. The weekend has been full of great authors and conversations. I am absorbing all I can while I am here. My plan is to continue taking classes in person and online with this amazing organization. I am grateful every day I have a partner that supports this time and learning for my work.
It is, of course, BREAKFAST DAY! We went to breakfast at the regular time but drove two cars so I could zip away to Chicago after we were done eating. Chris and I had our regular order and it was yummy. (BTW I love the phrase “zip away” it sounds super fun today!)
The drive into the city was beautiful again. It was sunnier today since the time changed last night. A Hot Chocolate race was happening but luckily did not cause any road closures for where I was traveling. There was something causing traffic at McCormick place but I was able to get where I needed to today fairly quickly.
Mona Awad and Rebecca Makkai doing the Q and A after Mona’s keynote.
Ananda Lima doing her presentation. It was amazing about details and what to do with them in your story! This was smartly done and helpful. She packed so much into an hour.
View of the city on the way back Saturday night.
If we were having coffee, I would tell you… Friday was soup day since I was occupied today. I made an Italian white bean soup. It was a bit thicker than soup typically is in my mind so maybe it was Stew Friday! It was delicious so the label doesn’t matter.
If we were having coffee I would tell you…I am reading NightBitch which was brought up in the monsters class I attended yesterday. This has been a recommendation from two writing friends. I had a hard time getting into it but I am getting sucked into the story now.
If we were having beverages together I would tell you…..my asynchronous courses and e-books are available. Find the link here.
If we were having coffee I would tell you…I participated in a 10K word challenge this past week with Mary Adkins and I was able to get a jumpstart on the longer project . I am using Nancy Stohlman’s FlashNano prompts this November and mine prompt was used for Day 1! WHOO HOO! That is never not thrilling.
If we were having coffee I would tell you…I do not seem to be too affected by the time change this round. How do you feel about Daylight Savings time?
How was your week? Are you planning a project for November? Has the weather turned where you are? I would love to know.

Sounds like an amazing experience. And I love Chicago so that part felt inviting too. Now I'm off to do my 25-minute write and I am going to use your post as my prompt: "If we were having coffee I would tell you ..."
P.S. I thought I'd already subscribed to your Substack; apparently not. I remedied that. ;-)
Thanks for the opportunity to live a little vicariously during these days of exciting writing adventures!!
