Welcome to Day 5
Day 5
You are welcome here wherever you are in the challenge. You cannot do it wrong.
For this challenge, you have committed to 10 minutes a day to be creative.
Day 5:
For an assignment years ago I wrote my own writing rules.
I write for my emotional health. I process internally and when I reach a certain amount of input I am compelled to curate the information in written form. I often feel lost in the world and writing grounds me.
Writing is important to me. I often feel like my I am mapping out of path for myself in order to find my way.
Today, write your own list of 10 Writing Rules for yourself.
Here are mine:
Write every day.
Start with a freewrite BY HAND — allow your subconscious to take control of the pen.
Find someone to read your writing who is NOT a writer.
Find a group of writers you have something in common with — it does not need to be genre, or age, or style.
Leave a group if you don’t like it — writing or otherwise. (Make sure to record conversations and impressions in your notebook though. It makes for good conflict.)
Read a poem, an essay, and a short story EVERY DAY. Input is important for your output.
Carry a notebook or note-taking device with you everywhere.
Find writing mentors — in real life or in books.
Finish the story even if it is terrible. You will still learn something, even if it is only just to finish.
Write YOUR story, not someone else’s.
Reflection on your writing:
What surprised you?
Is there something else you want to create now?
Did you use all the senses or just certain ones? Why do you think that might be?
Which Accountability Level Will You Choose?
[You can choose differently each day!]
Just create and keep it for yourself!
Hit reply and send your piece or a picture to me! I will read/look at it and send you good vibes and a thank you.
Find a buddy. Send the email to a friend and send each other your creations.
Post in the comments.
Happy creating!
I love the 10-minute time frame. Amaze yourself with what you can get done!
