Thank you for joining me for a coffee and a chat today.
If we were having coffee I would tell you..I have been walking a lot. Every day and at least 7 miles; usually more. It has made a difference in how I feel in my body. It is a good path for me to be on to accomplish my goals. I am participating in the Year of Writing Dangerously with Summer Brennan and am excited Session 2 will begin again tomorrow. I plan to write an essay about the walking. April is also poetry month and I have a list of prompts. Lots of writing will be happening (as usual!)
Writing Prompt: Write about an abundance of something.
If we were having coffee I would tell you… this week it was Saturday breakfast because the diner we go to is not open today. Everything tasted a little bit better yesterday than normal. It might have been the warm weather and the sun.
We did have some animal weirdness though. An injured raccoon was in our carport and moving slowly. A bird flew into the front window of the house. A small group of birds almost tripped me getting into the Explorer as we left for breakfast. I saw a snake too!
Writing Prompt: Write about closings.
If we were having coffee I would tell you…I have been introduced to some new Substacks this week which I have enjoyed reading.
Writing Prompt: How do you read?
If we were having coffee I would tell you… I took myself to the library and a local cafe yesterday. While browsing, I found The Book of (More) Delights and was reanimated about this process from Ross Gay. Do you know it? He started writing about a delight every day starting on his birthday. They are short essays.
I heard him speak at the AWP conference in Missouri last month which is always inspiring. I am considering using a delight framework for my Storyaday Challenge in May.
Writing Prompt: Write about a delight today.
If we were having coffee I would tell you…as I mentioned last week, 2nd quarter begins tomorrow. I am excited for my plans moving through this span of 3 months. This year I am experimenting with the quarter planning and I like it so far.
I am coaching, facilitating a writing group, and working on my own writing. The schedule I assigned myself after some hard evaluation seems to be working well.
I am attending an author event in June and staying one night in an AirBnB which I am excited about! It will be a short writing retreat for me. The little apt is above a barn and there are chickens! I am already excited.
Writing Prompt: Write a story that spans 3 months.
If we were having coffee I would tell you …I am still thinking about the rooms metaphor. I am reading the Freeman book (the hold came through!) There is a lot to think about here and I am having fun exploring it!
One of the rooms I will be leaving soon is my Bradbury Trio course. It essentially ends this week although we will have a wrap up call on the 14th. I have enjoyed teaching this course and my writing is influenced too, which I love.
If we were having coffee I would tell you … today I will make big dinner for the holiday! It makes me happy to cook for my husband - it works well because he loves to eat and loves my cooking. I am grateful for a lot and he is a major part of all of it.
My son and I went to dinner this week which was super fun too! He went on stupid errands with me which he doesn’t mind. I went to different stores (because we were in a different town) which was frustrating because it didn’t go as smoothly as it normally would have. I also successfully avoided leaving the house all week which always makes going out into the world a different experience.
Thank you for joining me for coffee today. If you write to any of the prompts I would love to hear about it.
