I normally include my recommendations for the week in my Sunday Coffee Share but I had the intuition pull to post it separately today.
Today I would recommend:
Unpublished to Published Course (taught by me - starting in April!)
As writers, we are creating new stories all the time. We motivate each other to finish our drafts and revisions. After we finish writing a story, we get to decide where and how we want to share it.
For some writers, that means emailing it to someone they love.
For some writers, that means posting it on social media or in their newsletter.
For some writers, that means submitting it for publication.
If sharing your writing with a wider audience is one of your writing goals, join Unpublished to Published today. The course begins April 20th!
Poem
I have been rereading this poem every day: I Watch Her Eat the Apple
Books
Henry Lien just published his book about writing Eastern-style stories which is perfect timing for me and my Margot project! I was reminded this book was coming out this month in a coaching call I had yesterday.
Spring, Summer, Asteroid, Bird: The Art of Eastern Storytelling
Also, poetry. Just poetry books. Whatever you love. Poetry is medicine. I purchased two new poetry collections this week at the bookstore when I went out with my son. I checked out more than normal on my library visit this week. I am reading multiple poems daily. I also am rereading the ones I assigned to my Bradbury Trio class!
Doodling
You don’t have to show it to anyone. I have been doodling and sketching (trying) in my notebook. I add a bit of color with some colored pencils sometimes too. Art is fueling to me and there are a few art challenges that have popped up on my various feeds. But the drawings make me happy which is the only reason I need to do them.
Playlists
I revisited my playlists on YouTube this week. I have been avoiding podcasts….I am not sure if avoiding is the right word honestly. Maybe the podcasts have not been interesting to me. But it is a change in my pattern which usually means I am supposed to pay attention.
I typically listen to music lately only when I am cooking dinner and I use the Alexa. I used music as a way to focus this week. It was pleasing and I will come back to it again today. Do you have a playlist hiding somewhere in Spotify or YouTube you haven’t listened to for a while? I encourage you to press play even if you don’t listen to all the songs , or the whole song!
Do you know The Witch Doesn't Burn in This One, by Amanda Lovelace? I was intrigued by the title and also bought Witches by Erica Jong. I bought them at my local library's annual book sale. I had in mind the exposition at Pointe-a-Calliere museum here in Montreal.
SO many poets to recommend but two I read a lot of poems/books by are Diane Suess and Denise Duhamel...Excited to check out the Henry Lien book...Doodling: YES. Plan to do it daily as part of the #100DayProject I'm starting on Sunday. Low stakes; low stakes!!!
