Instead of Coffee, Let's Have Dinner
A Conversation over (usually Sunday but) Monday Dinner This Week
Normally, my Sunday post is a coffee share where you and I have a conversation over a cup of coffee. I have been doing that format for several years now and wanted to try something different. Since we cannot gather for a real life dinner party I invite you to a virtual meal. If there is a dish you would like to bring, please add it to the comments (recipes are welcome as well as the name of the dish!) Every week there will be a new surprise.
Find your place card at the table and pour a drink! There are several wines and sparkling waters for you to choose from at the bar cart.
Today’s menu begins with simple hors d'oeuvres of olive oil crackers and some soft cheeses. As we wait for everyone to arrive I would ask you my favorite question. If you had to live 5 imaginary lives, what would you choose to be? I learned this question from Julia Cameron decades ago and it is always a great get-to-know-you question.
Now that everyone has arrived let’s start the meal with our appetizer of Gorgonzola Chips. These are thick cut kettle chips with a blue cheese cream and gorgonzola cheese crumbles. They are a local restaurant favorite of mine and I want to share them with you!
During the appetizer, I would tell you after my trip to Colorado last month I learned from conversations I had with a poet there. I am going to add a weekly writing trip to the library to my schedule. I frequent the library to pick up my holds and browse the new books but I don’t often spend time there. Today I went and looked at several magazines and grabbed some words and phrases for writing later in my notebook. I also was able to sketch out a few ideas for some new stories which felt exciting. There was an interesting mix of people there today which was also interesting.
What is something you need to add or delete from your routine?
For our salad course, we are having mixed greens with a pomegranate vinaigrette. There are several add-ons for you if you like: sunflower seeds, nuts, cheese, etc. During the salad course, I would tell you I have slept more away from home this past 6 weeks than I have in years! At my writing workshop in Colorado, one of the things I noticed was the workshop authors all shared a technique they use themselves for their own writing. I found this extremely helpful to my own process!
Something else I am excited about is Kelly Link came out with a new book! It is called White Cat, Black Dog and I am ready to dig into it.
Is there something new you have noticed this spring?
Our main course tonight is Creamy Garlic Chicken with spinach and potatoes. I would tell you I spent the last week at my brother-in-law’s house trying to get it packed up and ready to sell. The house is almost there and we will likely be going back in a few months to finalize everything. Last summer we spent some time in Florida and it was oppressively hot. It wasn’t as bad this time but I am a winter girl, I know this about myself! I still was able to submit 5 pieces this week so I was proud of that fact!
What season is your favorite?
For dessert, we are having cheesecake! I would tell you my husband’s birthday was this past week and I made sure to have his favorite for his birthday! We celebrated before we left for Florida but it was nice to have something special for that day.
What is a celebration food for you?
Thank you for coming to my dinner party! I would love to have you attend next time as well!
