This post is inspired by Modern Mrs. Darcy
I keep a list of delights on my Daily Diary pages (from Lynda Barry) but was inspired to start a list of everyday things that bring me disproportionate happiness.
Colorful salad in bowl plates
I love my bowl plates. They are white and make the food look even better than it already is. I cut up a bunch of veggies that are different each time. This week, I put in orange and yellow peppers, cucumbers, tomatoes, red onion, romaine lettuce, and carrots. We topped it with garlic herb chicken, shredded cheese and cottage cheese. I use the Olive Garden Italian dressing. It is the perfect dinner.
Tomato sandwiches with tomatoes from our garden
I toast the white bread and slather butter on Chris’ and mayo on mine. Thick slices of tomato and salt and pepper are all that is needed. I thought I had run out of white bread and considered using a hamburger bun. That always reminds me of Lester Laminack’s book Saturdays and Teacakes. I have read that book hundreds of times when I was a teacher.
Reading Outside
…because the light is better! I read a lot in Canada in the sun and the shade since we were camping and there was no inside. I read outside in the carport this week while Chris worked on projects and it was glorious! I don’t know why I don’t do this more often.
Skype
Earlier this month I decided to stop giving Zoom my money. They didn’t do anything wrong, but I knew there was an alternative. I researched video conference services and came back to Skype for the call I hosted for my writing circle on Sunday. The videos were so clear and there is a “together” mode which places all the videos in a tiered outdoor amptheater-like setting. It was funny and fun. We had few audio issues and few learning curves. It worked beautifully. Who knew?
Getting answers so I can make plans
I am a planner in many aspects and I was waiting on some information to know how to proceed forward with third quarter events. I am attempting to not say YES to all the things so I have time to work on my own writing. Through reflection and analysis of my process in Canada, I realized I often will do writer adjacent things to avoid my own personal writing and to stay on an education schedule which I no longer am chained to.
I decided to teach the Bradbury Trio again (with some exciting changes) in September. This course fuels my writing and allows me to share my light with other so stay tuned for more info about the new version.Finding Books You Already Bought
I was listening to a podcast or reading something that referenced Tim Ferris’ 4 Hour Body and looked it up on Amazon. I bought this book in 2020! I love when that happens. I have such a great library system that usually I am able to find a book quickly but to already have it on my Kindle was an extra special surprise.
What are some everyday things you are loving?
Love hearing of the things that bring you outsized joy, Tammy! I love those salad bowl/plates too! And I frequently buy books I've already bought (so they become gifts). xo
We dog-sat over the weekend, and for long stretches my wife and I simply sat in the shade and watched the pack frolic in the yard. I had plenty of things planned, of course, but I kept smiling to myself, "This is a good use of your time." What can I say, they're adorable.
