Thank you for joining me for a coffee and a chat today. Write with me today! I was inspired by this Substack post:
The photo above is from the Baka Baka cafe in Reykjavik, Iceland. I have my flat white and Chris has his strong cup of coffee. I had the best cardamom roll in my life and will be recreating them at home sometime this winter. I am thankful to my friend Pam Houston who recommended the bakery to me.
Writing Prompt: Write something with the setting of a cafe, but something you would not normally find enters the story.
If we were having coffee I would tell you…we went to breakfast at our regular diner here in town and Chris and I split an omelet. We have been doing this for several months now. I drink so much coffee Sunday mornings you would think I would float away. I am moving slowly today.
Writing Prompt: Start with breakfast and let the story follow a thread no matter where it goes.
If we were having coffee I would tell you… I have been reading a lot. We had many snow days and I was able to take advantage of sitting in front of the fire. The reading continues. I am giving the library holds a workout.
I am reading How to Do Nothing by Jenny Odell which was recommended to me by Austin Kleon years ago. I read a bit and then respond in my notebook.
Writing Prompt: Write about a time the weather changed your plans for the better.
If we were having coffee I would tell you… I tried to run outside on Thursday. It had snowed, which usually gives me enough traction, but even though I wore my trail shoes, I almost fell on my ass several times. I still got in 3 miles but it was hard won.
Writing Prompt: Write about not being able to get a grip when you need one.
If we were having coffee I would tell you…the Bradbury Trio is going strong! This week students are writing a piece under the influence of the readings from last week. The conversation around the texts has been interesting and insightful! I am looking forward to what my students produce!
Writing Prompt: Write in response to something you read today - maybe this Substack! What would your coffee share look like today reflecting on your week?
Thank you for joining me for coffee today! If you write to any of the prompts I would love to hear about it. Tag me if you publish it on your Substack!

I’m curious to know your thoughts on How to Do Nothing. I read this book two years back I think and had very different expectations from the book versus what I actually found in it😊
