There is something about Sundays….the day is meant to have a different pace. A special slowness that seems hard to grasp these days. It used to be the day of holding my breath before the week began. When I was teaching, the week ahead was filled with chaos and urgency. My life is not designed in the same way now - which I am grateful for! I create my own urgency.
There are several meetings, book clubs, everyday activities, and a special author breakfast to look forward to this week.
Coffee from Iceland!
If we were having coffee, I would tell you…it’s BREAKFAST DAY! We did not get our regular table today, but the food was tasty. I dreamt hard last night and woke in a panic that I had overslept. Thank goodness it is cooler today. The temperatures soared into the 90’s F here this week and I was not ready. Potato salad is in the fridge, so that makes it better!
There is no soup or salad today…this weekend it is PIZZA SUNDAY!
If we were having coffee, I would tell you…I did not attend my IRL writing group yesterday since I had plans with Sebastian. Spending time with my boy is always a good day, and I had planned in my brain that I would not be going to the writing group. Sadly, the main task of the day was thwarted. The appointment was cancelled and we were not informed. We rescheduled for 2 weeks and then went out to breakfast! He took me to a little shop in town that sells local items which was a fun new adventure.
If we were having coffee, I would tell you…I am still obsessed with Book of Alchemy. The gathering to read and write with this book is Thursday, May 29th at 11:30 am ET. If you are interested in attending the small group - DM me and I will send you the link.
We will respond to a prompt and share highlights of what we write and our process. We may also share what it brought up for us that we didn't write. It has the potential to be an intimate group [fair warning], but a good way to start a journaling practice if you don't have one!
If we were having coffee, I would tell you…I took a Sarah Freligh class through Bending Genres this weekend which was amazing. I knew half the writers in the course, so that is always fun! I have a couple of decent drafts with some rich comments. I am taking another course today and I have my U2P call that I facilitate. It is a full Sunday.
If we were having coffee, I would tell you…I had an ongoing conversation with an editor through rejections but we have moved to email this week. I am honored and humbled that she would take the time to give me some feedback on my work.
If we were having coffee, I would tell you…I’m reading a manuscript of a friend and sending real time comments to her. It has been fun for both of us and gives her the real impressions of what I am reading. When you reach the end of the book, your brain automatically ticks through things that you were misled to think and then corrects them. That is not always the best process for revision for the author!
If we were having coffee, I would recommend…
Drinking more water.
WhatsApp/Telegram Audio messages
Poetry as medicine
Massages once a month
Laughing with friends on Zoom
Revision hours on Zoom
If we were having coffee, I would tell you….a new 4-week session of the Trio begins next Sunday! You can find the info here. If you are on the fence, now is the time to decide. Enrollment closes this week!
Here are some photos from this week:
If we were having coffee, I would tell you…I am thinking ahead to next month because for me, there will be a series of transitions. It is my birthday and I will be leaving the community coordinator position I have held for many years. It is time for a break from certain choices that stress me out! I will have some concentrated time to get my manuscript in a better shape. The summer solstice will be here before we know it! SmokeLong Summer is beginning soon which is a lot of prompts and writing (which I welcome)! There is a lot to look forward to.
Have a wonderful week!
