If we were having coffee, I would tell you…it’s BREAKFAST DAY! We had our regular table. The omelet was good, but the hashbrowns were overcooked - ick.
It is Salad Sunday! I have a bunch of chopping to do after 3 back to back meetings. They are good meetings so that makes me happy!
If we were having coffee, I would tell you…I attended my IRL writing group yesterday. It was a rough sleep Friday night so I was moving SLOWLY. It is amazing to me how much work I can get done in 90 minutes with an intentional plan. I worked on a grant and a revision. The breakfast was yummy and the company amazing (as usual).
My good friend Jane was teaching a book making class across the street at the gallery so I went over to say hi and check out their handy work! They all looked amazing and they were having so much fun.
Later in the afternoon when I returned from the library and filling up the Explorer with gas, I sent the flash piece off for submission and the grant too! Two new additions to the spreadsheet is a good practice.
If we were having coffee, I would tell you…I finished Book of Alchemy in a mad dash on Tuesday morning when Chevy decided to lie on me so my notebook could not be written in. The book was scheduled to disappear so I wanted to make sure to read it before the library snatched it back. (I did end up ordering a physical copy.)
The gathering to read and write with this book is Thursday, May 29th at 11:30 am ET. If you are interested in attending the small group - DM me and I will send you the link.
We will respond to a prompt and share highlights of what we write and our process. We may also share what it brought up for us that we didn't write. It has the potential to be an intimate group [fair warning], but a good way to start a journaling practice if you don't have one!
If we were having coffee, I would tell you…I met Carmen Maria Machado on Friday morning. I am blessed to have a life where I can drive into the city and attend an event like this. There were only about 20 of us, in one of the StoryStudio’s people’s houses. It was magical.
Carmen did a Q&A session and then signed our books.
Parking in the city stresses me out, but I was able to easily park on Clark St and then walk the short distance to the house where the event was happening. It was pleasant and sunny and the architecture was fun to see on the way there and back. I could have stayed longer in the city was I was ready to come home. I have an art institute outing planned for next week.
Sadly, I have to host an event on the 11th for the writing school otherwise, I would be going to the Art Institute that day as well. They have their Writing in the Gallery event that day, but sadly, I have not mastered the spell to be able to be in two places at once. Nor do I have a time turner. Chris and I have been rewatching the Harry Potter movies too which has been fun.
If we were having coffee, I would tell you…Chris has been planting all week! There are lots of baby plants that are being taken care of so we can have many many vegetables as we move into the summer!
If we were having coffee, I would tell you…SmokeLong Summer began yesterday. I joined the kick-off call briefly on my way to my writing group. It is 3 prompts per week which is fun but the workshops are fantastic.
If we were having coffee, I would tell you…I’m reading lots of things but found August Blue by Deborah Levy. I love her writing and didn’t know of this book. Greece keeps coming up for me this week.
If we were having coffee, I would recommend…
Joining your library’s summer reading program
Spiritual Direction for Writers - Daily Nourishment
Wild Writing - a free 4 day event!
Here are photos from this week:
If we were having coffee, I would tell you…I am thinking forward to the summer solstice and how I want to celebrate this year. I always pull a special tarot spread, but not sure what else I want to do.
Have a wonderful week!
A little more about me: Tammy L. Evans is a writer, teacher, and runner living in a tiny house on a peninsula with her husband and adventure cat. Her location device is her loud laugh. She is a reader for Reckon Review. She is the creator and host of the THE BRADBURY TRIO COURSE. Her poetry has been published in The Storyteller, FoxGlove Journal, Story Hall, Blue Insights, The Partnered Pen, and others. Her fiction has been published in Gone Lawn, South Florida Poetry Journal, Cabinets of Heed, Spelk, Five on the Fifth, Clover and White, Fiction Berlin Kitchen, and others.
So cool that you got to meet Carmen Maria Machado! I love all the Art Institute visiting you do; it gives me aspirations to get on board. I also enjoy the photo spread this week, especially the Machado pix, art vending machine at the Gardner Center (from whence I have obtained at least three truly fabulous tiny pieces of art, including a map of Miller rendered on a little piece of leather??!!!), and the cat staring at you and refusing to move, lol.
My birthday is June 20th so I'm also all in on marking the solstice! Last year I pulled cards to check in on the spread I'd done on the winter solstice and that was nice.
