My Darkest Side of the Moon coffee on the Art Institute Member Terrace!
If we were having coffee, I would tell you…it’s BREAKFAST DAY! I was up early today, so I had an hour before we left for the restaurant. A few words were entered into the notebook and I had some water. Chris and I shared our usual order at the restaurant. There were a lot of different people there today which was unusual for a Sunday morning.
If we were having coffee, I would tell you…it’s summer, and it’s hot. The garden has been watered this morning and the heat index is already at 97 degrees F and is climbing and it’s still mid-morning.
If we were having coffee, I would tell you…I did not attend my Saturday IRL writing group because I spent most of the day with my son. There were some delays, but overall it worked out well. I did a lot of rearranging of my manuscript on the fast computer at the library. We did some stupid errands, which is always fun and had a lovely lunch at one of those places that is closed on Mondays that we love.
I have been keeping up with my SmokeLong Fitness Summer prompts and writing which I am happy about too!
If we were having coffee, I would tell you…I attended my IRL book club this past Wednesday which was magical. I love this group of women and feel nourished by them all. The conversation flowed as always, the food was great and we talked about the book.
If we were having coffee, I would tell you…I am still reading” The Dry Season” and also the essay collection “ Abandon Me” by Melissa Febos. I have some other essays to read for a class I am taking with Alexander Chee in July.
On a different reading note, I have been thinking a lot about reading aloud to other people. In elementary education, I read to kids every day. There is an intimacy to read to someone else. I used to coordinate school-wide reading events and I was surprised and confused when police officers and firefighters were scared to death to read to students. They wanted the books weeks ahead of time to practice.
Do you read aloud to your partner? Your kids? Someone else?
If we were having coffee, I would tell you …I made Country Time lemonade this week. Wow! It is more potent than I remember, and then Chris reminded me that it is designed to be put over ice. Sugar headache! But something I wanted to do this week to celebrate the solstice!
If we were having coffee, I would tell you…I am teaching the next round of the Bradbury Trio in August. More info is coming soon. The Book of Alchemy conversation and writing session will be the Full Moon writing and will be around July 10th.
If we were having coffee, I would ask you….How do you spend your Sundays? What are your favorite parts of Sundays? What is your ideal Sunday?
Sundays look different when I am with family or when I am alone. There are ideal scenarios for both in my case. Sundays are breakfast day, of course! In the winter, I make soup on Sundays and in the warmer months I switch it to salad. (I like alliteration.) Sandwiches may be on the menu tonight.
I like Sundays to be a slow day. I love my book nests. It is a rest day for me from running.
I also conduct meetings in the afternoons because that is the time I can schedule them for everyone to attend, especially with various world time zones!!
Here are photos from this week:

Kathy Fish is doing a Flash Fiction Extravaganza! You can join in!
If we were having coffee, I would tell you….Chris and I leave for Canada in one week! We have a long drive and then I will have 5 days to work on my manuscript! The bag with the writing and reading supplies is next to my desk. Things go in, and then they come out again! The wardrobe will be simple for me since I plan to spend the bulk of my time writing. I will start making a pile in a few days for that aspect of packing.
I wish you a good week!! What are you excited about right now? I would love to know.

Canada can't wait to see you!
Even retired from the "collect a pay check" work world, I still look forward to Sundays. Perhaps it is just a lifetime of engrained social conditioning that this is the day for rest. And what is rest after retirement? Sometimes I fee I have more "to dos" now than ever. On Sunday, I don't care; the clutter can stay piled up, the phone messages and email can go unanswered, taking care of others' needs can wait at least one more day. Sunday is my day, wheter I spend it reading, creating or napping with the cats. If you want to know how to relax, just watch a cat.
