Thank you for joining me for a coffee and a chat today. The photo above is from the Baka Baka cafe in Reykjavik, Iceland. I have my flat white and Chris has his strong cup of coffee. I had the best cardamom roll in my life and will be recreating them at home sometime this winter.
It is snowy and windy here today. The wind chill is -36 degrees. BRRRR! There is a fire in the fireplace and I will be reading today!
If we were having coffee I would tell you…we went to breakfast at our regular diner here in town. It was delicious! It is a great weekly ritual. We did not get our regular table today though which always throws us off a bit.
If we were having coffee I would tell you… I have been reading a lot more lately and feel better. I have some self-imposed rules around reading that are working well. I am using the library a lot. One of the best things I ever downloaded was the library extension on my Chromebook. I am dipping in and out of several books.
A Place in the World by Frances Mayes
The Sentence by Louise Erdrich
The Pivot Year (this is part of my morning writing ritual)
Drifts by Kate Zambreno
An Invisible Sign of My Own by Aimee Bender
I have been reflecting on these ideas more and more in my notebook. I am playing with the ideas of what my writing needs to be and what I like to write.
If we were having coffee I would tell you… I am so impressed with some of the writing on Substack. This morning I was intrigued by this article:
It aligns with the Writers’ Salon conversation I am gearing up for on Wednesday with Sarah Selecky’s Centered community.
If we were having coffee I would tell you… I had several great runs this week. I love running outside, just not in the weather we are having today!
If we were having coffee I would tell you… I am looking forward to attending AWP this year. It is my first time and I am anticipating the writing conversations I will have! It will be a couple of days I can focus on writing 24/7!
If we were having coffee I would tell you…the Bradbury Trio started today and I am excited about this new group and iteration of the course. This first theme is FOOD!
If we were having coffee I would tell you…I am thinking about Iceland (when am I not??) but was sad to learn this morning that a volcano is erupting again near the town of Grendavik. Everyone was evacuated and are safe from what I have read so that is good news.
Thank you for joining me for coffee today! I would love to hear a story in the comments about something that you experienced this past week.
