Thank you for joining me for a coffee and a chat today. Let’s take our coffee and nestle in for a long chat. The photo above is from the Baka Baka cafe in Reykjavik, Iceland. I have my flat white and Chris has his strong cup of coffee. I had the best cardamom roll in my life and will be recreating them at home sometime this winter.
If we were having coffee I would tell you…we were back at the breakfast ritual this morning. We had the time change here which usually sends me into a tizzy but the “fall back” has not been too bad.
If we were having coffee I would tell you… yesterday I attended a Tinhouse workshop on a spiral structure for writing which was interesting. I attended a workshop by Sherrie Flick as well. I started a writing class called Writing in the Dark on Thursday evening. I am hoping some pieces come out of this class that are honest and full of potential.
If we were having coffee I would tell you… I am back from the Iceland retreat. There is so much to say about this trip. It was amazing. I will be writing from these experiences for quite a while. I am happy that the conversation with my retreat mates is still going strong and we are planning to get together for a writing group at the end of the month. Chris and I climbed up the mountain that was by the Guesthouse where we stayed at the beginning of the trip. He did it twice - once while I was in a workshop and the other time with me.
We visited the hot springs and saw how lava bread is made in the geothermal pools.
The time in Reykjavik after the retreat was full of walking, great food, great coffee, and beautiful scenery. We could see the Arctic Ocean out of our hotel window. Chris and I got matching tattoos. We both felt the most healthy than we have for quite a few years. We are making plans to return soon.
If we were having coffee I would tell you… my story, SHOTS OF EMOTION, was published in South Florida Poetry Journal on Wednesday. I love this story and it was the one I read for the writing salon at the retreat. You can read it here.
If we were having coffee I would ask you… what would you like to know about the retreat?
If we were having coffee I would tell you…the #last100days project is underway and if you have missed any of the readings, the prompts are contained in the section at the top of the page marked LAST 100 DAY PROJECT. You are welcome to join now and you do not have to “make up” any days.
If we were having coffee I would tell you… the wrap-up call for the Bradbury Challenge is this afternoon and I am looking forward to chatting about reading and writing. This group has been amazing and present. It is always fueling to have smart conversations that are engaging and make you think in a new way.
The course has been popular and well received so I plan to do another edition starting in January.
Thank you for joining me for coffee today! I would love to hear a story in the comments about something that you experienced this past week.
If you need a suggestion:
Where is the best place you have traveled in your life?
What is a silly question you would like to share? (Ex. Will I ever go to bed before 3 am? Why did I get my soda for free at the gas station yesterday?) I am starting a questions journal!
If you like this content and think someone else you know would like it too please forward it to them!
