Thank you for joining me for a coffee and a chat this July Sunday. Let’s pour ourselves a cup from the pot that is hot and ready and begin our conversation!
I am having my normal black coffee today. I need coffee today since we have been driving for many hours. We are traveling to Florida to help with some family stuff.
Do you like long road trips?
If we were having coffee I would tell you… work has been busy! There seemed like there were lots of events and prep that was needed for those events this past week. All joyful work, but it takes time. It is writing adjacent which always seems to take more time than the actual writing!
If we were having coffee I would tell you…I had dinner with my son on Tuesday night and even though it was a short amount of time, we had a great visit. We ended up at a Mexican restaurant and ordered the same meal! Seb and I have a knack for wanting to go to restaurants that are closed on the day we are meeting. We find a new one and make plans to try again where we were met with a closed sign.
If we were having coffee I would tell you…I have been thinking about community and how we feel connected to each other. A dear friend and I have had several life-giving conversations about belonging and how we show up this week. We have also talked about who we exclude. I am trying to come to some new conclusions about people can feel welcome in all sorts of spaces whether they be conversational, education, or otherwise.
Often we belong in a group that has a common interest. It could be cooking, or running, or writing or belief or work.
Through these conversations the question came up: What would it look like if we went somewhere thinking we already belonged and were accepted? What if we didn’t have to feel the need to impress? What would happen?
The question I pose to you is: When do you feel like you belong the most?
If we were having coffee I would tell you… I had some great runs this week. Funny enough, the runs were better on the days it was hot!
What did you write in your notebook today?
If we were having coffee I would tell you… I am continuing with Beth Kempton’s (love her books) IG challenge #meetthewriter. You can check out my posts here: https://www.instagram.com/writertammy/
Beth’s challenge has inspired an idea for my own IG event #readwritegrow
More details are coming soon!
