Thank you for joining me for a coffee and a chat today.
Write with me today! I was inspired by this Substack post:
The photo above is from the Baka Baka cafe in Reykjavik, Iceland. I have my flat white and Chris has his strong cup of coffee. Iceland had some of the best coffee I have ever had. I am sure it has something to do with the water.
Writing Prompt: Write the element of water as a large part of your story.
If we were having coffee I would tell you…we went to breakfast at our regular place and Chris and I split an omelet. I always get my own rye toast. We did not get our normal table which threw us all off! I had several cups of coffee which helped me feel more awake. It was nice to linger at the table and take our time today. We did see someone bring their own coffee cup today which was an interesting detail.
Writing Prompt: What is your pancake story? Everyone has one.
If we were having coffee I would tell you… my reading streak continues. A friend, Mana, recommended a book called THE SCHOOL OF ESSENTIAL INGREDIENTS, which is a fun read. I am taking my time with it!
I am reading Martyr! by Kaveh Akbar - this book is special because I heard him read from the book last March at a writing conference. Plus, he is an amazing writer and poet. I loved all our conversations in Colorado.
I am dipping into ENDLESS PRACTICE by Mark Nepo and responding to the reading in my notebook.
I also read this article this morning which has me thinking about extreme brainstorming.
Writing Prompt: Write a piece about someone starting over.
If we were having coffee I would tell you… the weather has still not been great for running. Today I am getting out there to do a longer run since there is no rain. As soon as my breakfast settles…
Writing Prompt: Write about anticipation.
If we were having coffee I would tell you…the new readings for the Bradbury Trio dropped today. This week we are reading fairy tale related works.
I am still responding to the writing from last week, which has been amazing!
Writing Prompt: Write in response to something you read today - maybe this Substack! What would your coffee share look like today reflecting on your week?
If we were having coffee I would tell you…This week has been amazing! I have been able to get a lot done and the pace has been perfect. I cooked chili and homemade cornbread. I made cheesy chicken, broccoli, and rice which was also delicious. We had many fires in the fireplace. Chris and I watched some good shows too! I love my life.
Thank you for joining me for coffee today! If you write to any of the prompts I would love to hear about it. Tag me if you publish it on your Substack!

I'm such a fan of your newsletters, Tammy. I really do feel as if we're chatting over coffee! I agree re: the coffee in Iceland. I loved reading "I love my life." I'm going to try one or two of these prompts in my writing practice today. Thank you.
Hey Tammy! What a great Sunday coffee read—thank you! There’s something special in the writing when someone is truly happy with life. I enjoyed your post and saved a few prompts for later. I remember A School of Essential Ingredients as being a good read—I thought the same author’s latest book, No Two Persons, was good as well. Happy Sunday!
