Baka Baka cafe in Reykjavik, Iceland
Thank you for joining me for a coffee and a chat today. I appreciate the feedback on this new format as well! The coffee share has always been one of my most popular posts (even when it was on the blog) but the writing prompts seem to have amped the interest.
Write with me today! I was inspired by this Substack post:
If we were having coffee I would tell you…I dreamt about ice water this past week which reminds me of Iceland. This past week I have remembered images rather than story contexts of my dreams. I have been using some of those images in a structure called the 5 Things essay from Summer. You can find her substack here.
Writing Prompt: Write about images from your dreams. If you don’t remember your dreams, Google an image of a tarot card or a surrealist painting and write about the first image that catches your eye.
If we were having coffee I would tell you…there was breakfast today. Chris and I split a Denver omelet. We had late toast but it was all delicious in the end. There is lots of fog this morning. Sunday breakfast is a ritual that makes me happy.
Writing Prompt: What is a ritual that sparks a strong emotion for you?
If we were having coffee I would tell you… I took myself to the art museum in town! I have been saying I was going to do it for weeks. I was pressed for time but instead of putting it off one more day, I just went. I had my little Field Notes notebook and wrote down observations and titles. It was so nice to be walking on a college campus again. I miss it.
Thank you to my friend Chelsea for introducing me to this artist:
On our Iceland Retreat writing reunion call, we shared some work and life updates and Barabar Kruger was one of those topics!
Writing Prompt: Find a piece of art and write down a story it tells you.
If we were having coffee I would tell you… the sun came out Thursday! I ran 8 miles! WHOO HOO! That is the longest run I have done in a while. It felt great.
Writing Prompt: Create a myth about the sun.
If we were having coffee I would tell you…if you are not already subscribed, I highly recommend Kathy Fish’s Substack. She is doing a Flash Immersion project for February. If you always wanted to work with Kathy this is your chance!
Thank you for joining me for coffee today. If you write to any of the prompts I would love to hear about it. Tag me if you publish it on your Substack!

Tammy, thank you for the mention! I love the Sunday coffee share. This one is bursting with goodness. I love especially the prompt to write about a ritual that is emotional for you. I'm going to try that one. Thanks again!
