I have been working consistently on a larger writing project for a few weeks now but just started tracking the words I am writing daily with this one character. The word tracking started with a challenge from Mary Adkins to write 10K words in 8 days.
I am excited about this focus and it has been a while since I felt this way!
I am just writing and not overwhelming myself but feel like texts like Unlocking the Novella-In -Flash and Alan Watt’s 90 day novel will be helpful. They are on the desk anyway.
My desk has become my altar to creativty it seems and I like it.
I am fortunate to have several working spaces in my house. I also have the luxury of going to a cafe, or the library or even into Chicago.
The Bradbury Trio [reading a poem, an essay, and a story every day] fuels my writing.
This trio structure works for me because I am inspired to write after I read.
I hope the reading you do today leads you to writing that could have not been created any other way.
Here are some of the texts that made an impact on me.
Poem: YES
I love this poem for the sentence stem. “I am done…” leads to an interesting writing exercise!
Story: The Wrong Heaven
I love this first story in the short story collection of the same name. You can read the first story in the preview of the book on Google.
Essay: My Marriage Was A Never Ending Scavenger Hunt
I love the small stories that together make an overall picture of this marriage.
Have you read anything interesting this week that you need to share!? Please do so in the comments! I love recommendations and have found some of my favorite stories that way.
A little more about me: Tammy L. Evans is a writer, teacher, and coach living in a tiny house on a peninsula with her husband and adventure cat. Her location device is her loud laugh. She is currently working on a short story collection. Her poetry has been published in The Storyteller, FoxGlove Journal, Story Hall, Blue Insights, The Partnered Pen, and others. Her fiction has been published in Gone Lawn, Cabinets of Heed, Spelk, Five on the Fifth, Clover and White, Fiction Berlin Kitchen, and others.
Love the Bradbury Trio! I’ve never heard of it, (tho I’m sure I’ve accidentally done it when planning classes!) but I am adding it to my daily routine for some daily nourishment! <3
