I tried something new today.
Today I am writing from a large couch in Florida. I have been having trouble sleeping here. We are not on holiday here, we are here for a funeral. Although it is nice to be with family, the subtext of the occasion influences everything else.
I began my writing today in my notebook and then read my trio. Pieces from the Trio and my dreams started forming a fiction piece. Starting now, (rather than after the first of the year) I am dedicating my writing time to my own writing first, rather than writer-adjacent exercises.
After I typed the piece in my Google Drive, I commented out to the side about where those ideas came from. This is an exercise in recording my thinking on the page rather than letting it dissipate like a ghost you see at 2 am.
The Bradbury Trio [reading a poem, an essay, and a story every day] fuels my writing.
This trio structure works for me because I am inspired to write after I read.
I hope the reading you do today leads you to writing that could not have been created any other way.
Here is what I read today.
Poem: The Holy Divide by Mark Nepo.
I belong to the Wild Writing community with Laurie Wagner. I love her poem choices and I get a poem and her pull lines 3 times a week. This was today’s poem.
Story: The Lucky One Pamela Painter
Essay: Micheal O’Siadhail on the Pleasure of Writing Poems by Hand
