Today it is still negative temperatures with a fierce wind chill. I am content to read and write in front of the fire. I may go out today but it is a slim chance. There are things I could do - aren’t there always? It is all about the choices we make.
With my husband’s school choosing e-learning causes me to think back to when I was a student and how rarely we closed school. There was only one weather day I remember for snow when we closed in elementary. Never in middle school or high school. When I attended Ball State there were no classes canceled either.
There is the capability of online learning now though so time doesn’t need to be made up like it would have in the past. Online learning has changed the game for my growth, especially as a writer. I am thankful for all the teachers I have been able to study with because of Zoom.
The Bradbury Trio [reading a poem, an essay, and a story every day] fuels my writing.
This trio structure works for me because I am inspired to write after I read.
I hope the reading you do today leads you to writing that could not have been created any other way.
Here is some of what I read today.
Poem: A poem by one of my favorite poets: Ada Limon
“What It Looks Like To Us and the Words We Use”
Story: The Obituary Writer
Essay: Kate Zambreno Collects Herself in The New Yorker
I am reading DRIFTS by KZ and am fascinated with her autofiction style. I have her book that she co-wrote TONE downloaded on my Hoopla account. It is more academic, which I don’t mind.
What will these pieces inspire you to write!?
What are you writing in your notebook today?
I would love to know your favorite lines in the comments.

Tammy, once again You've inspired me. I used Lydia's "Lost Things" to get me going. Thanks!
