Tammy's Trio on Tuesday
Reflections and Readings from My Bradbury Trio Program + Writing Prompts
This morning I made soft-boiled eggs successfully. My Oma used to make them for me and I would eat them, my feet dangling from the chair at the head of the table, in the dining room. It was the only time I ate by myself in there.I ate it out of the blue and white spotted egg cup that was stored in the curio cabinet. Oma tapped the top of the shell with the spoon and prepared it for me. I could dip my toast into the runny yolk and nibble away.
Chris’ dad used to make the eggs for his mom. (Sometimes poached)
It was a breakfast full of nostalgia for us this morning. The cat even decided to steal the end of the 12 grain bread loaf and claim it as his own before we sat down to eat.
I opened the computer to another nugget of joy! My friend Trish shared my Sunday Coffee Share in her post today for the Two Teachers Blog Slice of Life Tuesday.
I hope your day is full of nuggets of joy and sunshine too!
The Bradbury Trio [reading a poem, an essay, and a story every day] fuels my writing.
This trio structure works for me because I am inspired to write after I read.
I hope the reading you do today leads you to writing that could not have been created any other way.
Here is some of what I read today.
Poem: The Way It Is
Writing Prompt: What thread are you following?
Story: Office Hours by Ling Ma
Writing Prompt: If a door opened through your closet where would it lead? What would be the consequences of going there?
This story is in the O. Henry Prize Winner anthology edited by Lauren Groff. One of the characteristics of the stories she chose was that they needed to stick with her long after she read the story. I cannot stop thinking about this story! I knew the author’s name was familiar and she wrote a collection called BLISS MONTAGE. (Which I have on hold at the library….again.)
Essay: An Interview with Pam Houston for Orion
Writing Prompt: If you could make pancakes with anyone, living or dead, who would it be?
I believe everyone has a pancake story. (Next time you are at a party, or there is a lull in conversation, ask this question. It will be interesting, I guarantee it.)
This interview is a lot of fun. I know Pam, and can hear her voice in the responses.
It would also be fun to answer these questions yourself!
What will these pieces inspire you to write!?
What are you writing in your notebook today?
I would love to know your favorite lines in the comments.
A little more about me: Tammy L. Evans is a writer, teacher, and coach living in a tiny house on a peninsula with her husband and adventure cat. Her location device is her loud laugh. She is a reader for Reckon Review. Her poetry has been published in The Storyteller, FoxGlove Journal, Story Hall, Blue Insights, The Partnered Pen, and others. Her fiction has been published in Gone Lawn, Cabinets of Heed, Spelk, Five on the Fifth, Clover and White, Fiction Berlin Kitchen, and others.
Oh that poem, The Way It Is *sigh* That’s inspired some pondering...
Several good takeaways here for me today--thank you!

I was very inspired by the Bradbury Trio concept.
I read fiction most days (pages from a novel) and essays on Substack or ones of interest that pop up on my phone. Will have to squeeze in a poem, too.
