There are less than 100 days left in 2023. This year has been full of surprises. The passage of time and how that feels is no exception.
Today is a day full of writing and reading although not where I physically want to be. I am blessed to have the life I have and I am grateful but I get prickly when other people’s rules affect what my husband and I want!
The Bradbury Trio [reading a poem, an essay, and a story every day] fuels my writing.
This trio structure works for me because I am inspired to write after I read.
I hope the reading you do today leads you to writing that could have not been created any other way.
Here are some of the texts that made an impact on me this week.
Poem: Praying by Mary Oliver
A small poem full of great pull lines. I read it and it makes me happy.
Story: Tending the Elephant Cheryl Pappas
I was able to hear this story read by Cheryl at a writing conference before it was published. There is something about the elephant and the representation of the barriers in our life and perspective that appeals to me.
Story: The Museum SmokeLong Quarterly
I am obsessed with this story and am unpacking it line by line today.
Essay: Lidia Yuknavitch: The Time I Snuck Into Ken Kesey’s Fiction Class
What will these pieces inspire you to write!?
Have you read anything interesting this week that you need to share!? Please do so in the comments! I love recommendations and have found some of my favorite stories that way.
A little more about me: Tammy L. Evans is a writer, teacher, and coach living in a tiny house on a peninsula with her husband and adventure cat. Her location device is her loud laugh. She is currently working on a short story collection. Her poetry has been published in The Storyteller, FoxGlove Journal, Story Hall, Blue Insights, The Partnered Pen, and others. Her fiction has been published in Gone Lawn, Cabinets of Heed, Spelk, Five on the Fifth, Clover and White, Fiction Berlin Kitchen, and others.
I really enjoyed all these this week. Thanks for sharing so I don't have to search for mine three to ready today.
❤️ all of these. Thanks.
