This was a fun piece to write. Thanks for the prompt.

"TEN"

Keeping to the shadows we moved as vampires do—hissing at the burn of sunlight on bare skin—sighing in the shade with toothy smiles. Finally we reached the breakfast shop and ordered our meals. The conveniently located 7-Eleven across the road welcomed us with open doors and a strong blast of cool air. We left with three drinks in hand: one yogurt green tea and two passion fruit yogurt green teas.

Refreshed and replenished, we hugged the sides of buildings as we snaked and slithered our way back home. Our small dog barked twice to greet us and to complain about being left behind. I took her out for a walk and a sniff under the railway bridge. A little bird kept an eye on Coco while I marveled at the blooming snake plants she weaved between. The flowers are said to be a sign of prosperity.

After lunch I visited both secondhand shops and found a few bargains. The most practical was the fruit shaped ice tray for the kids. The most inspirational was a brand new glass dip pen set of 12 inks. The box says, “Freedom of the Starry Sky.” A unicorn silhouetted in stars is pictured mid-galop to the moon.
