When I move to a new town the first place I visit is the library. When I moved back to this area two years ago (this is my last move!) I didn’t have my local library card because I discarded it with the idea I would never return. (I have stopped using the word NEVER when referring to my life!).
Moving back to Indiana was a blessing and just what I needed, but was certainly unexpected. 2022 was a year of unexpected things for me.
When I acquired the new card my license hadn’t changed yet(priorities), but I did have the change of address paperwork from the post office. It was sufficient and I was thrilled. The library system in this county is award-winning and many of the books I hear about on podcasts and reading conversations are on display when I walk in.
I tend to not purchase novels because I only read them once ,with the exception of The Night Circus .
Do you know about the Google Library Extension? Whenever I look up a book it automatically tells me whether the book is at my library in hard copy or digital. I can click on a button and put a hold on it immediately. This extension has stopped me from buying numerous books and I don’t have to store them after I read them either. I am at the library about three times a week to work and pick up holds.
Tomorrow the plan is to write at the library in the morning. I read magazines and people watch as well as write. I have come to learn that the library is not a quiet space anymore. The vibe here is more of a community space which I don’t mind, but it a far cry from how it was in my youth.
Is your local library a place of quiet or community noise? I would love to hear in the comments.
Lovely read - my local library is a quiet one .. still gives the feeling of serene camaraderie..
My local library is tiny and with the kindest staff. It also hosts art exhibitions.
