Welcome home, Tammy. I'm crawling through the week, just trying not to sink into a river of despair, but books are my constant companions and I can't wait to crawl into bed each night with pages that turn. Last night, I made homemade chicken stock and I can still smell the aroma wafting through the house. I think I need your white chicken chili soup recipe (and soon!)
I used to have my students keep a process journal around their writing, some found it tedious and others extremely helpful. Currently I'm just jotting down mini reflections, 2-3 sentences, in my bullet journal, and it's a nice ritual, but your 3 questions are broad enough to work in a variety of contexts. And like Sue Ann, I'm doing a lot of metaphorical crawling, the air feels heavy and makes me sluggish. Still getting a lot of mileage from Oliver Burkeman's Meditations for Mortals. Reframing is the concept that most vividly jumps out at me from what I'm reading.
In the past I have struggled with keeping a gratitude journal. I am grateful for everything that brings me a life of modern ease living in a developed nation, but listing these things seemed rote and gave me no spark. Recently a friend posted on her social media "What was the best thing about today?" I don't know why that simple question took the pressure off but it has changed my practice and is leading me to other questions. What would I change about today? What made me feel loved today? How did I love another today?
I also struggle with a gratitude journal, and I'm not sure why. Feels like I'm doing an essay question for a test somehow. So I'm grateful 😉 for your question. I will give it a go!
As always, I love catching up with your Sunday coffee shares! Last week for me was a lot of fun too with my trip to Jaipur! Trying hard to make time to fulfil office responsibilities and my passions .. but we’ll get there.. 😊
How did I miss your substack until now? I LOVE the concept "If we were having coffee I would..."
I'm a big library person. I have a lot of Kate Zambreno (LOL) books on my TBR pile from the library right now -- the NY Public Library suspended late fees during the pandemic and have kept that going so I keep books out for shamefully long periods of time. These three books are ready for pick-up or in transit at my local branch: The Mother Act by Heidi Reimer, Gravesend by William Boyle, and The Bullet Journal Method. Five other books are in line, waiting to be returned by others before they get to me. So many books!!!
I am glad you are here now! I love the idea that late fees are not a thing anymore at the library...and auto renews! I always have something on hold at the library. It is glorious!

This feels life changing.
